Sermon-prayer of Reisu-l-ulema for unity in Krajina, delivered from the pulpit of the mosque of the Lubarda Dzemat in Buzim
OH, PROUD KRAJISNIK, UNITE YOUR HEART WITH THE HEART OF YOUR BROTHER
Dear brothers and sisters,
I have wished to come to the Bosnian Krajina for quite some time now, and especially in the area of the Buzim Majlis, so that we can, together, repeat the prayer for reconcilement and unification. Those, who were present at the opening of the mosque in Arapusa, in July of 2005, when we promised to devote a sermon-prayer for reconcilement in Krajina, will remember that it was read by the foresters at the mid-day prayer on the 16. of dzumada-l-ahir of 1426 / July 22, 2005. In that sermon-prayer we prayed to Allah Almighty:
Allah Almighty, strengthen our will for the truth, justice and reconcilement. Enable us to love our brother and to forgive him if he has sinned against us. And gift us, of God, with the strength to ask of our brother forgiveness if we have sinned against him.
Allah All-knowing, teach us to see the good which is before us and not the evil which is behind us. Instruct us to speak nice words one to another. Point us, oh God, to find the open path to the heart of our brother. Show us, oh God, the sign of Your mercy which will guide us to the mercy of our brother.
Allah, the Noble, let brotherly love flow from our rigid hearts, as you let water flow from a hard rock. Lighten, oh God, our mind with wisdom which will guide us to a brave and true reconcilement. As we know that You are content that we live in unity and love. You are not content that we live in hatred and enmity.
God, show us the path of repentance and forgiveness which leads us to the joy of complete reconcilement. Gather closer, oh God, the hearts of all Krajisniks in the homeland and in the Diaspora so that they be as a building made of lead, which will stand, for eternity, in love and unity.
Allah the Merciful, forgive our sins, those which we know of and those which we do not know of. If we forget You, don’t forget us.
God, accept this prayer of ours, unlock our hearts, open our arms for a true reconcilement in our Krajina, which is our pride and our hope for a better future for our children.
This sermon-prayer did not touch all of the hearts equally. Ones’ hearts were touched by it, while it disappointed others. However, the majority understood that there is no other way to brotherly reconcilement and unity on the path of God. Since all other paths we treaded up until now, or intended to tread, were wrong and lead us to a dead-end from which there was no exit except by returning to the path of love toward God the Eminent.
Since all that we are and have - God gave us. Therefore, to love God, dz.s., is, more than anything else, the highest of values. If a man loves God more than anything else, including his own life, he will have more love than he gives. If, on the other hand, he loves something else more than God Himself, then man gives more than he gets. Then his soul is emptied and becomes nervous. It is only when he loves dear God, that his soul is filled with what it needs most - love towards people. Therefore we are told in the Holy Qur’an: “Tell them, oh Muhammed, if you love Allah follow me, Allah will love you and forgive your sins... (3:31)”
The first sign that a soul has began to love something else more than God, dz.s., is when a man starts to make sense, and a goal of his life, out of something else than God, and when he starts to believe that for him it is the greatest happiness. Then the love toward god starts to weaken and the man becomes more and more dependent upon that. Then unease and fear appear in man’s soul, as a soul feels that love is not being returned. A soul then falls into despair, and feeds on hatred instead of love, seeks revenge instead of forgiveness, instead of pride feels humiliation.
Therefore, we are thus told in the Holy Qur’an: “Tell them, oh Muhammed, if your fathers, and your sons, and your brothers, and your wives, and your tribe, and your possessions, and your store which you watch over from fear of loss, and your houses which you comfortably live in - become dearer than Allah, His Messenger, and the struggle upon the path of God’s justice, then wait (to see) what will be when Allah’s commandment comes... (9:24)”.
Unfortunately, our love toward God, His Messenger, and the struggle upon the path of God’s justice, had weakened as we have started to make sense, and a goal of our life, out of something else, and as we started to believe that this is our greatest happiness. Therefore we were unwilling to love one another, we were unwilling to see that love is also faith in God, that which we need, that which calms us, that which brings us happiness.
That was the condition of the two tribes, the Aws and the Khazraj in Medina, until God’s Messenger came to them and instructed them how to transform mutual hatred into mutual love in the name of God: “Remember, oh Muhammed, Allah has united their hearts. If you were to spend everything there exists in the world, you would not have united their hearts if Allah had not united them... (8:64)”.
This Qur’an message is perfectly clear - nobody and nothing in the world can unite the Krajina hearts if Allah does not unite them with His mercy and love, which is to say that if the Krajisniks, themselves, and all of us together with them, do not comprehend that love toward Allah, His Messenger and the struggle upon the path of God’s justice, is more important than anything we are, and we have.
Ahead of us is the Mubarak month of Ramadan in which Allah sows His endless mercy: “My mercy includes all”, says Allah. And so he unites human hearts, as he united the warring hearts of the Aws and the Khazraj. Therefore we pray today that the names of Krajisniks be remembered for eternity as are remembered the names of the Aws and the Khazraj, who, through love toward God, gained the strength to forgive their brothers, who, through love toward God, His Messenger and struggle upon the path of God’s justice, united their hearts. In fact, Isaa, a.s., teaches us thus: “The true good deed is to give goodness in return for evil...
Therefore, oh proud Krajisnik, be brave now that we need you courage the most - unite your heart with the heart of your brother in the love toward God the Eminent. Your example of reconcilement and unity upon the right path will be a lesson and obligation to all Bosniaks to unite their hearts for the good of our faith and homeland. Is there a greater honour than that?
Allah Almighty, strengthen us in our intent to be in Your love!
Allah All-knowing, instruct us, to love to our brother that, which we love to ourselves!
Allah Merciful, shower us with Your endless mercy and love which will unite our hearts for the benefit of all! Amen!
